Ways to Donate to the BHA
There are so many ways you can support the BHA. Please read through the various giving opportunities below for more information. We truly appreciate your support!
BHA Endowment Fund
in 2018, the BHA established an endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Lorain County to ensure the future of the organization. This fund will provide yearly returns which will help cover the overhead costs of the organization in perpetuity. The BHA has a goal of raising $300,000 for this fund. Please go online to donate or send a check directly to the Community Foundation with a note indicating the funds are to be attributed to the Brownhelm Historical Association. Donations can take many forms, including bequests, retirement distributions, stocks, appreciated assets, and so much more! Click the link below for more information on how to donate.
BHA Cemetery Fund
The BHA has reclaimed the first burying ground established in Brownhelm Township, once known as ‘The Lost Cemetery.” Now called Brown’s Lake Road Cemetery, this is the final resting place to several early settlers as well as a Revolutionary War soldier. The association is currently restoring gravestones in each of Brownhelm Township’s three historic cemeteries; Brownhelm Cemetery, Lake Road Cemetery, and Rugby Cemetery. The work is being funded solely through donations to the BHA. Please send donations marked specifically for the “BHA Cemetery Fund” to the BHA at:

BHA Church Fund
Donations toward the BHA Church Fund help to cover the costs of maintaining the historic German Evangelical and Reformed Church on Claus Road. The church was constructed around 1870 and after over 100 years in existence, was granted to the BHA by the last three remaining parishioners in the 1990s. The church is now solely supported by donations through the BHA. Please send donations marked specifically for the “BHA Church Fund” to the BHA at:

The BHA has established an annual scholarship fund to assist students from the Firelands School District. Every year the goal is to raise at least $1,000 to be awarded to a student who has a strong interest in history. The school was built around 1889, housing students and staff for almost 100 years when it was finally closed by the Firelands School District in 1988. The BHA worked tirelessly to save the building from demolition over the last several decades and the structure is now the home base for the organization.
